Northeast Syria

Violence by the Turkish state continues for the third consecutive day, targeting the remaining infrastructure and civilians with a complete disregard for humanity and committing crimes at the highest level.

This heinous act is not the first of its kind The people of the region are still suffering from crimes committed during Turkey’s previous occupation of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ayn) and other border areas in northeast Syria, including severe violations such as cutting off water supplies for nearly five years to around 1.5 million people in Al-Hasakah Today, Turkey repeats this pattern by destroying what remains for residents in the eastern Euphrates, targeting hospitals, institutions, service points, And people’s property, worsening the situation and displacing hundreds of thousands of original inhabitants.

The eastern Euphrates region hosts numerous displacement camps created as a result of previous Turkish actions, and Turkey has not hesitated to make these camps targets in its latest operation.

Civilians from all communities are increasingly concerned about Turkish attacks, which threaten the security and stability of the region Condemnation alone does not protect civilians from the systematic destruction of infrastructure.

It is clear that these attacks will create a security vacuum, potentially allowing ISIS cells—which continue to operate in an organized manner in the region—to re-emerge. This security disruption aligns with Turkey’s ongoing support for terrorism and the fostering of an environment conducive to extremism.

The safety of civilians in northeast Syria is the responsibility of all regional actors This unilateral action by Turkish forces represents repeated violations, a struggle over the remaining resources of the people, and a weakening of international coalition and organizational efforts in the area.

Active states on the ground, the United Nations, and international organizations must act decisively to impose limits on Turkey’s ongoing violations against civilians in northeast Syria.
