Ahimsa Organization held the second session of its capacity-building training series in Al-Hasakah, as part of “Masar” Project, in collaboration with the Steps Center in Lebanon and under the supervision of trainers specialized in nonviolence and peaceful conflict transformation.
During this session, participants delved deeper into understanding individual and collective identities. The trainers raised a series of thought-provoking questions that encouraged reflection and open discussion:
- What is the relationship between individual and collective identity?
- How do the concepts of “I” and “We” intersect in our daily lives?
- Why do we often fail to express our identities through talents and art?
- How does violence impact identity?
- Exercise: The “Violence Meter”
The session provided a safe and open space to discuss various behaviors and actions by assessing the degree of violence within them. This opened the door to a deeper dialogue about the nature and boundaries of violence.
The trainer emphasized that:
“Violence, regardless of its justifications, can never be tolerated or legitimized under any pretext — even when the intentions seem noble.
Violence remains violence in all its forms. The nonviolent approach calls on us to continuously confront and expose it, to reject it entirely, and to affirm the existence of peaceful and nonviolent alternatives for resolving conflicts and achieving change.”
