Amid the escalating tensions and violence in the region, we call for the protection of civilians and the rejection of revenge and hate speech.

Statement by the Young Nonviolent Activists of Ahimsa for Nonviolence Organization on the Killing of Sipan Hazni – 10 September 2026

Amid the escalating tensions in Al-Hasakah Governorate and its countryside, along with the events and developments that threaten further escalation, most recently the abduction and killing of fighter Sipan Hazni, we at Ahimsa for Nonviolence would like to express our deep concern and condemnation of this act and the serious consequences it may have for the lives of civilians and social peace..

We condemn the killing of Sipan Hazni and affirm that human life and safety must never be subject to revenge or retaliation.

Any crime targeting a person must be investigated and subject to accountability, away from the logic of vengeance or collective punishment.

At the same time, we warn that continued tensions, alongside the spread of hate speech, incitement, and targeting based on identity or affiliation, may lead to further violence and division, turning political and military disputes and conflicts into conflicts between communities and groups.

Protecting civilians cannot be achieved through revenge, just as confronting violence cannot be achieved through counter-violence.

Therefore, we emphasize the importance of upholding the law, investigating violations, holding those responsible accountable, and ensuring the right of all civilians to safety and protection without discrimination.

We call on all parties to exercise restraint, refrain from practices that could fuel tensions, reject incitement and hate speech, and work to protect civilians and prevent the expansion of violence and retaliation.

We also appeal to Syrian society in all its diversity not to be drawn into narratives that hold an entire group responsible for the actions of individuals or specific entities, and to uphold shared human values that place human life and dignity above differences and affiliations.

At Ahimsa, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the principles of nonviolence and our rejection of all forms of killing, abduction, incitement, and revenge. We call for the protection of civilians and the preservation of their dignity, and for dialogue, law, and accountability to be pursued as a means of addressing violations and preventing their recurrence.
