Ahimsa Organization implemented the third day of the Realistic Nonviolence Simulation Training in the city of Qamishli, as part of the activities of the Voice of Peace – Youth Against Violence” campaign within the “Ruwad Al-Taghyir project.

The third day focused on applying the principles and strategies of nonviolence in practical, real-life contexts, while strengthening participants’ ability to accept diverse perspectives and exchange ideas in a friendly and constructive manner.

Key themes addressed during the session included:

  • Reviewing the functional exercise from Day Two, during which participants shared their experiences in completing the home assignment, discussed the situations they encountered, and reflected on how they dealt with them.
  • Group discussions and idea exchange to define the concept of active listening and analyze its key components.
  • Introducing “I-messages”, which focus on expressing feelings and needs without blaming the other party.
  • Highlighting the importance of “I-messages”, methods for unpacking fears, and the value of reaching shared solutions.
  • Providing a detailed explanation of active listening skills, including eye contact, body language, and their role in building healthy dialogue.
  • Explaining the skill of paraphrasing, aimed at transforming negative or accusatory language into clear expressions of feelings or needs.
  • Addressing the skill of unpacking fears by identifying underlying concerns behind tension and offering realistic reassurance.
  • Explaining the concept of shared solutions, which are based on identifying options that create mutual benefits for all parties.
  • Conducting a rotating skills stations exercise to apply acquired skills in a practical and interactive way.

The session provided a rich space for experiential learning and contributed to strengthening participants’ skills in nonviolent communication, understanding differences, and building dialogue-based shared solutions.

In conclusion, the third day marked an advanced stage in the training journey and contributed to empowering youth to translate nonviolence principles into practical practices in their daily lives.
