The Ahimsa for Nonviolence Organization team in Raqqa launched a community campaign titled “Planting Peace, Not Violence” as part of the Sada Project, with the aim of promoting a culture of nonviolence among children and adolescents through activities that combine art, environmental awareness, and community engagement.
The campaign was held at Independence Park in cooperation with the DOZ Organization and the People’s Municipality of Raqqa. It featured a variety of interactive and environmental activities designed to strengthen the values of participation and social responsibility.
The campaign activities included:
- Planting new trees to promote the concept of environmental nonviolence and encourage a sense of responsibility toward the environment.
- Giving the trees names inspired by the values of nonviolence, reinforcing the principles of peace and tolerance among children.
- Storytelling sessions featuring real-life examples of nonviolent responses to everyday situations, encouraging shared learning and the exchange of experiences.
- Engaging children and adolescents in decorating a tree with drawings and symbols expressing peace and their hopes for a safe and supportive environment.
- Creating the “Nonviolence Box,” where participants placed messages, reflections, and lessons they had written themselves, capturing the impact of their participation and expressing their understanding of the values of nonviolence.
This campaign is part of a series of community initiatives implemented by Ahimsa for Nonviolence Organization in Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, and Raqqa, aiming to promote a culture of nonviolence, strengthen community participation, and contribute to building more peaceful and sustainable communities.
