Ahimsa Nonviolence Organization conducted its first training on “Gender, Equality, and the Role of Women in Nonviolent Movements” in Al-Hasakah, under the guidance of trainers specialized in gender issues from Ab’aad Organization.
The training explored a range of concepts and issues related to gender, nonviolence, and community participation.
The training focused on understanding gender and social roles, as well as the impact of socialization and stereotypes on women and men.
It also examined women’s roles in nonviolent movements and civil society, highlighting the importance of promoting equality and meaningful participation.
Key topics covered included:
- Gender, social roles, and gender socialization.
- Stereotypes and masculinity.
- The role of women in nonviolent movements and civil society.
- Gender-based restrictions and their impact on education and employment.
- Challenging stereotypical roles and promoting role-sharing in the workplace.
- Gender equality and creating a safe, inclusive, and participatory work environment.
- The role of men in supporting gender equality and women’s leadership.
The training concluded with a discussion on ideas and experiences related to applying the principles of equality and nonviolence in everyday life, the workplace, and the wider community.
It also highlighted the importance of re-examining the roles and stereotypes imposed on women and men by their social environment.
The discussion further emphasized the importance of promoting equal participation, supporting women’s access to leadership positions, and encouraging men to play an active role in advancing gender equality and challenging discriminatory practices.
The training provided a space for dialogue and exchange of perspectives, contributing to participants’ understanding of the connection between gender, nonviolence, and community participation, and highlighting the importance of creating safer, more inclusive, and participatory environments based on equality and respect.
