Ahimsa Organization held a session on \u201cCommunity Mapping\u201d as part of its team capacity-building activities in Al-Hasakah on January 31, 2024, within the \u201cMasar\u201d project, under the supervision of specialized trainers in nonviolence.<\/p>\n

The session aimed to enhance participants\u2019 understanding of their communities by exploring diverse perspectives, and to strengthen their ability to identify community development issues and address them through participatory approaches.<\/p>\n

The session focused on several key themes:<\/p>\n

  1. Understanding the community through multiple perspectives.<\/li>\n
  2. Identifying community development issues and challenges.<\/li>\n
  3. Drawing a map of the community (town\/city) and identifying its main landmarks.<\/li>\n
  4. Defining roads, boundaries, and important geographic areas.<\/li>\n
  5. Identifying local resources and assets.<\/li>\n
  6. Mapping available services and facilities within the community.<\/li>\n
  7. Exploring available opportunities and potentials.<\/li>\n
  8. Identifying problems and concerns within the community.<\/li>\n
  9. Highlighting gaps (unmet needs), particularly regarding women\u2019s participation in public and political life.<\/li>\n
  10. Indicating unsafe or restricted areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    During the session, participants were divided into groups, with each group working on creating a community map of their area using colored pens and symbols, aiming to express their perceptions and feelings toward different spaces within the community.<\/p>\n

    The session was highly interactive, combining teamwork and critical thinking, and provided participants with a safe and supportive environment for expression, analysis, and knowledge exchange.<\/p>\n
