Ahimsa Nonviolence Organization held the first dialogue session of a series of capacity-building sessions on research writing entitled “Discussing the Concept of Economic Sanctions” from the book Dictionary of Nonviolence“ as part of the ”Change Leaders” project, with participants from different regions, including Al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Qamishli. The session focused on the concept of economic sanctions as described in the book Dictionary of Nonviolence.
The session focused on the following topics:
- Discussing the concept of economic sanctions from a nonviolent perspective and their impact on societies, linking theoretical concepts to the local reality and living conditions.
- Analyzing real-life models and examples to understand the dimensions of economic sanctions and their social and economic repercussions on individuals and the most vulnerable groups.
- Comparing the nonviolent view of economic sanctions with the reality of life, and discussing the gap between the theoretical concept and actual experience.
- Build the team’s capacity to analyze and write about economic issues within a nonviolent research framework that takes into account human values and social justice.
- Work on developing skills in writing nonviolent research based on reality, grounded in concepts, evidence, and critical analysis.
The session provided a space for dialogue, critical thinking, and exchange of views among participants, which contributed to enhancing their understanding of the concept of economic sanctions from a nonviolent perspective and building their research capacities as a tool for peaceful change.
The session concluded with recommendations from participants emphasizing the importance of research and analysis as a nonviolent means of understanding reality, conveying the voice of communities, and contributing to the development of initiatives based on knowledge and awareness.
